Pump Speed Control Submodule
with 2 x 0-10V DC Outputs

PSC / DIN / AOP / ...

Main Features

Controls pump(s) speed to maintain a constant pipeline pressure as hydraulic load varies

One 0-10V DC input available for Pressure Sensor (module scaling adjustable)

Can also be used to control Pool Water Dosing

Works with SeaChange Boiler Controller, Chiller Controller or Secondary Circuit Controller

Description of Features

The Pump Speed modules are Submodules, which can be used to extend the control capabilities of other SeaChange Modules.
This controller is designed to work in conjunction with a Boiler Controller, Chiller Controller or Secondary Circuit Controller. The controller measures the static pressure on terminals 'temp b' and controls pump speed via analogue output A, either directly (if the pump(set) is capable) or via a Variable Speed Drive (inverter). The Pump Speed Submodule is registered like an Actuator Submodule.
When the Pump Speed Submodule is registered to a Boiler Controller it takes the registration address of the next available cascade address. When registered to a Chiller or Secondary Circuit Controller it takes the next available registration slot.
The TYPE parameter must be set up to define which type of Pump(set) the module is controlling.
The controller can be set to report measured values and accept setpoints in any engineering scaling according to the range and units of the pressure sensor. The range of the pressure sensor needs to be set to achieve this; by default the module works 0.0 to 100.0 % equivalent to 0.0 to 10.0 volt on the analogue input.

Sensor Scaling

The controller is designed to use ACT-DIN hardware with the sensor input modified to 0-10V. The pressure sensor can be any range from [0 to 9.999] to [0 to 9999] in any units. Set the required decimal places first (DPPV) then set the sensor range parameters. The engineering units value for 10V input MXPV and for 0v input MNPV can be set on config variables.
The allowable setpoint range can be limited by setting MXSP and MNSP, the decimal places for these parameters are the same as for the Processed variable.

Sensor Filtering

By default the controller uses the standard filtering used for universal scaling, that is the average of 64 readings is taken, this gives a new value every 3.2 seconds. This average can be changed by adjusting config C122 ADCB adc blocks. This defines how many blocks, each of 16 readings, are taken before a new value is generated. Each block takes approximately 0.8 second.

Setting Controller Type

The settings for the TYPE parameter follow the same conventions that are used on Pump ChangeOver Submodules.
When registered to a Boiler Controller set the TYPE to match the pump being controlled, 1=Primary, 2=VT (and 3 for DHW pump on BLR/DHW). When registered to a Chiller or Secondary Circuit Controller or other controller which allows actuators to be registered set the TYPE=4,5,6 for Heating applications and 7,8,9 for cooling applications according to the configuration parameter table.

Control Loop

Update time

The control function is called every 5 seconds, twice the normal rate.

Invert Loop

The control loop by default reduces the Pump Speed output with increasing pressure input. The controller can also be used to control other volume related parameters e.g. pool dosing. In this case the 'sense' of the control loop needs to be inverted, increasing measured value gives increased Pump Speed, this can be achieved by setting configuration parameter INVL INVert Loop. (Note if the loop sense is inverted use the 'cooling' loop tuning parameters otherwise use the 'heating' ones).

Alarms

The controller supports STOP alarm, and the receipt of the Frost protect alarm from the boiler. Alarm mode and Alarm State config variables have been added to the config variable list.
ALRM = 0
Alarms ignored
ALRM = 1
Alarms reported no other action
ALRM = 2
Alarms reported, shut down all outputs on alarm
ALRM = 3
Alarms reported, shut down all outputs on STOP alarm or sensor fail alarm

Commissioning

Manual Mode

Holding down override button selects manual, status led flashes, initially this just sets 'occupied' and the controller will control to the occupied setpoint if a sensor is connected. The next press on the override button selects manual pressure control output, the temperature led shows red, if the controller has a pot fitted this can be used to set the output level, otherwise full output is selected. The next press selects cooling which is not used on the controller and final press on override cancels manual.

Doorway Codes

Pump Speed Submodules are addressed with [NnFm] where Nn is the address of its parent controller (eg B1, H2, C2), and m is the submodule address of the Pump Speed Submodule. Item codes follow the normal conventions.
