Integration with Split A/C Units

Daikin Split A/C Interface Module
ACT/DIN/AOP/SPLIT/001

Main Features

Setpoint control of Daikin split A/C units

Works with Daikin KRP interface boards

Converts a 0-10VDC input voltage to 0-135 ohm resistance output on a linear scale

Power to unit provided externally or by a SeaChange actuator module

Daikin split A/C unit can be controlled via a SeaChange Zone Controller user interface to maintain the cooling setpoint, hence avoiding the need to have a separate A/C controller

Cooling setpoint can be determined by the zone controller based on internal cooling demands to provide an energy efficient demand based system

Can be setup to operate in conjunction with the heating system to avoid energy wastage due to simultaneous operation of heating and cooling system

General

The SeaChange RIF resistance interface has been designed to provide setpoint control of a Daikin split air conditioning system.  The module converts a 0-10V control signal to 0 to 135 ohm resistance output suitable for controlling a Daikin split unit via a KRP interface board.  The resistance module can be used standalone, or in conjunction with a SeaChange control system to provide full system integration with the heating and ventilation plant in the building.  By controlling the split air conditioning units on a SeaChange platform, we can avoid any energy wastage often seen on applications where more than one control system is used to maintain the internal conditions.  A SeaChange zone controller can be used to control one or more split air conditioning units using a combination of resistance modules and analogue actuator submodules (see below). The zone controller can provide automatic control of heating and cooling systems as well as providing optimum start/stop, weekly occupancy times and self learning intelligent temperature control and setpoint adjustment.

The resistance module is not a LON device and does not require configuring or registering on a SeaChange network.  The voltage to resistance calculations are carried out internally by a PIC microcontroller.

Two outputs provide the required signal to the Daikin KRP interface board:

Two inputs provide the control signal to the module:

Using the RIF interface with a SeaChange AOP Sub Module

The resistance interface module can be directly controlled from an analogue actuator submodule specifically configured for Daikin split A/C units. One of the 0-10V outputs from the AOP actuator module provides power to the RIF module, and the other provides the 0-10V resistance control voltage.  This functionality is only provided on ACT/DIN/AOP/SPLIT/001 analogue actuator sub modules.

When the actuator is occupied and the demand level is greater than the minimum demand level (MIND) set in the actuator module, output A will be set at 10 volts, otherwise output A will be set to 0v. This output is used to power the resistive interface, and hence allow variable resistance to be seen at the output.

Note - the resistance seen at the output remains at 126.4 ohms when no power is applied to the resistive interface module.

Additional setting of the maximum and minimum output voltages on channel B (MXVB & MNVB parameters) can be used to trim the maximum and minimum output resistance values obtained with the resistive interface module.

The physical connections between the two modules are:

RIF Resistive Interface Module Daikin SeaChange Actuator Submodule
Power Input - Connections 1 & 2 Output a - Connections 7 & 8
0-10V Input - Connections 5 & 6 Output b - Connections 9 & 10

Note - the connections on the resistance interface module for the 0-10V input are polarity sensitive. Please ensure terminal 5 on the RIF module is connected to terminal 9 on the ACT module and terminal 6 on the RIF module is connected to terminal 10 on the ACT module.
